Nigel G. Gilby, London
Called to the Bar in 1980, Nigel G. Gilby has more than 30 years of experience as a pre-eminent lawyer on personal injury trials in all levels of courts.
He is lauded by peers and clients for his compassion, tireless commitment and philanthropic support of charities and numerous health organizations and activities — particularly in the area of acquired brain injuries.
A Certified Specialist in Litigation (personal injury) since 1995, Gilby, at Lerners LLP in London, is recognized by Lexpert as being consistently recommended as a personal injury lawyer. He has also been selected by his peers to be included in the Best Lawyers® in Canada list, since its inception.
Gilby is a founding board member and the president of Dale Brain Injury Services, which provides residential day programming and outreach for adults with acquired brain injuries, and also founded HABIT (Helping Acquired Brain Injury Treatment), which provides funding for treatment, goods and services for people 21 years of age and under who suffer the effects of Acquired Brain Injury.
Examples of his ongoing community support include being a principal non-government funder of the Nigel & Rhonda Gilby Centre for Building Futures, which opened in 2010 and provides brain injury patients with affordable housing.
Gilby has provided support to the Children’s Hospital of Western Ontario, London Health Sciences Centre (LHSC), the LHSC Trauma Program & Patient Assistance Fund, St. Joseph’s Health Care Foundation and St. Joseph’s Hospice of London.
In 2001, Gilby established the Trauma Classic Golf Tournament, an annual tournament that has raised almost half a million dollars for the Trauma Program of London Health Sciences Centre, which provides care to adult and pediatric trauma patients.
