Honorees include a leading Hamilton lawyer; a former judge of Ontario’s highest court; a trail-blazing advocate for inclusion; a leading law professor and author; and a noted federal public servant. One presentation will take place at each of the five Call to the Bar ceremonies being held throughout Ontario this month. The Law Society confers LLDs, honoris causa, in recognition of outstanding achievements in service and benefit to the legal profession, the rule of law or the cause of justice. Each honorary LLD recipient will serve as an inspirational keynote speaker for the new lawyers attending the Call ceremonies. This year’s recipients are:
- David F. Smye, QC (June 16, London)
- The Honourable Stephen T. Goudge, QC (June 19, Toronto)
- Professor Martin Friedland, CC, QC (June 20, Toronto)
- Laurie H. Pawlitza (June 20, Toronto)
- John H. Sims, QC (June 23, Ottawa)
