Justice Ducharme honoured posthumously
On June 24, an honorary Doctor of Laws degree (LLD) was awarded posthumously to the late Honourable Edward W. Ducharme.
Justice Ducharme, who died only three weeks before the ceremony, was to receive the honour in recognition of his many years of outstanding service to the legal profession and the judiciary.
Harvey Strosberg, QC, a former Law Society Treasurer, read the citation and presented the LLD hood to the Ducharme family.
Speeches highlighting the life and accomplishments of Justice Ducharme were delivered by Chief Justice Warren K. Winkler, author Alistair MacLeod, Bencher Julian Porter and Treasurer Thomas G. Conway.
A total of 75 students were called to the Bar at the London ceremony. Another 1,378 were called in June at ceremonies held in Ottawa and Toronto.
