New lawyers called to the Bar in London, Ottawa and Toronto

Call to the BarThe Law Society of Upper Canada called more than 1,500 new lawyers to the Bar of Ontario at six ceremonies held across the province this June.

In his remarks to the new lawyers, Law Society Treasurer Paul Schabas said, “As lawyers, you have the capacity to make a difference. Your education and training, and your position as a member of the profession, empowers you and, in turn, can empower others. Your job is to use the law, and to develop the law, for the good of your clients and the good of society.”

Honorary LLD presentations also took place at the ceremonies. Each LLD recipient served as an inspirational keynote speaker for the new lawyers.

The Law Society confers honorary LLDs in recognition of outstanding achievements in service and benefit to the legal profession, the rule of law or the cause of justice.

Licensing candidates and their guests shared photos and congratulatory messages from the ceremony on social media using the hashtag #lawyered.
