Mental health advocate honoured with Law Society Medal
Each year, the Law Society Medal is given to Ontario lawyers for outstanding service within the profession, whether in the area of practice, in the academic sphere, or in some other professional capacity where the service is in accordance with the highest ideals of the legal profession.
Da Silva is being recognized for his extraordinary mental health advocacy.
He has shown great courage by sharing his personal experience and struggles with depression, and successfully brought the issues of mental illness and mental health to the forefront of the profession during his presidency of the Ontario Bar Association.
Called to the Bar in 1995, Da Silva is counsel in the Crown Law Office – Civil, Ministry of the Attorney General of Ontario.
He was named one of the Top 25 Most Influential Lawyers in Canada by Canadian Lawyer magazine in 2015.
The Law Society honoured 14 members of the legal professions at its annual event in Toronto.
