Strategic objectives set for 2019-23 bencher term

Posted: 02/27/2020

Convocation approved four key strategic objectives for the 2019-23 bencher term:

  • Achieving proportionate regulation: balancing protection of the public interest with proportionate regulation for lawyers and paralegals.
  • Ensuring competence and quality of service: ensuring that lawyers and paralegals provide legal services competently and professionally throughout their careers.
  • Determining appropriate scope of regulation:  ensuring effectiveness of regulation by considering the appropriate scope of what and how the Law Society regulates.
  • Facilitating access to justice:  determining effective ways to regulate legal services in the public interest so as to facilitate and not unnecessarily restrict access to justice.

These objectives will direct the strategic agenda and policy work for the Law Society over the next four years. The four objectives were identified by benchers through a strategic planning process following the paralegal and lawyer bencher elections in April 2019.
