Paralegal conduct rules amended re: conflicts of interest

Posted: 04/27/2017

Law Society notice

Amendments to the Paralegal Rules of Conduct enhance guidance to paralegals on the obtaining of consent from a client, where there is a conflict of interest, by eliminating the distinction between express and implied consent.

The corresponding guidelines were also amended.  The changes to the paralegal rules follow a consultation with the profession on the proposed amendments and reflect amendments made to the lawyers’ Rules of Professional Conduct in February 2016. Full report.
